AIT Racing Carbon Fiber Hoods for the Chevy Cobalt

AIT Racing OEM and R1 Style Carbon Fiber Hoods for the Chevy Cobalt 05-09.

AIT Racing Carbon Fiber Hoods are the best carbon fiber hoods on the market, so treat your Cobalt to a new and much more stylish street look.

AIT Racing utilizes a technology similar to F1 Racing Car production. Their process uses vacuum infusion technology with honeycomb core and folded edges to produce a lighter and much stronger hood compared to wet laid hoods produced by other manufacturers. Vacuum infusion can produce laminates (carbon fiber) with a uniform degree of consolidation that produces high strength and lightweight products. Honeycomb panels are used instead of more layers of reinforcement (fiberglass fabric) for the core of the hood. Honeycomb saves up to 90% of weight and has a high strength to weight and stiffness to weight ratio.

AIT Racing uses BGF Industries, INC carbon fiber which is combined with a high quality clear gel-coat to produce a high quality shine. There will be no yellowing and/or peeling because this gel-coat is the best on the market. Holes are pre-drilled.

These carbon fiber hoods are intended for off-road use only. Quality hood pins are required. Buyer discretion is also advised. All carbon fiber products require professional installation steps. Therefore it is NOT considered to be defective. Most carbon fiber products are hand-crafted therefore no two items will be identical. Expect small imperfections such as wavy weaves, small bubbles, and clear coat blemishes, these are inevitable.

The vacuum infusion process is a technique that uses vacuum pressure to drive resin into a laminate. Carbon fiber is laid dry into a mold and the vacuum is applied before resin is introduced. Once a complete vacuum is achieved, resin is literally sucked into the laminate (carbon fiber) via carefully placed tubing. To aid in this process an assortment of supplies and materials are used.

Vacuum Process

First layer of CF fabric is laid down in the mold, and then additional layers of fiberglass are laid down to add support. (The hood is not 100% carbon fiber due to high costs). Honeycomb core is laid down next and then a last layer of fiberglass is laid down to complete a sandwich effect. A vacuum bag is placed over the sandwich and the vacuum is started. When vacuum is finished the resin begins to fill the mold. Once cured the hood is removed from the vacuum bag and sent to quality control for inspection.

AIT Racing Body Kits for the Chevy Cobalt

AIT Racing BMX and ZEN Style Body Kits for the 05-09 Chevy Cobalt 2 and 4 doors models.

Kits will include 4 pieces, a front and rear bumper and 2 side skirts. These parts can all be purchased as individual pieces.

You’ve done the research, you’ve checked out other manufacturers, you’ve checked pricing and now you’re ready to purchase a complete AIT Racing Body Kit for your Chevy Cobalt.

Since the beginning AIT Racing has been producing body kit products in FRP composites. However not body kits are the same. Some manufacturers use other forms of plastic components in their process. Unfortunately most plastics are pure, like toys, and soda bottles. However, plastics can be reinforced with fibers when additional strength is needed. This combination produces some of the strongest and most versatile materials for their weight class.

AIT Racing’s own formulated resin is a hybrid form of polyester resin which has been enhanced with epoxy molecules within the main molecular structure to toughen it up. This formulated resin offers better resistance to moisture absorption, is more flexible and offers higher strength.

Because of this your body kit parts will not expand or shrink with temperature changes like other body kits. They will not absorb water and they are non-flammable. For the most part they are chemical resistant (expect for hydrofluoric, hot phosphoric acids, and strong alkaline substances). They also exhibit higher strength to weight ratio when compared to other manufacturer products.

The craftsmanship is exceptional with 10% of the process being hand crafted. There are multiple layers of hand lay-up fiberglass. You will see this quality in the clean backside finish, the uniform thickness throughout, the absence of sloppy blobs.
If you part requires aluminum mesh this will be provided free. The aluminum mesh will not rust and the surface will arrive in a non-oily condition allowing for easy custom painting.

The gel coat finish provides for high impact strength, excellent gloss surface. It is water resistant and guaranteed to be less wavy than competitor products.
Fitment is superior when compared to Vfiber and Duraflex.
